How does roadside assistance work?
August 19, 2021
Roadside assistance. It’s easy to add and surprisingly affordable.
As you’re passing construction on the freeway after work, you notice there’s some debris in the road and before you know it, you feel your car bounce over a bump. You pull over—flat tire! You’re nowhere near a gas station—and right in the middle of rush hour traffic—what do you do?
You could start walking towards a gas station. You could call a friend to help. Or, if you’ve thought ahead, you can rely on your roadside assistance insurance coverage.
Out of the three options, the one that spares your friend driving in rush hour and your feet from walking to the next gas station is to purchase a roadside assistance plan. With it, you always have a helping hand at the ready—24/7—should you have a problem on the road.
While there are many options to choose from, often the best choice is to buy the roadside assistance coverage that’s attached to your auto insurance policy.
What does roadside assistance cover?
Roadside assistance is there to help with more than just towing your car. Although, if you do need a tow, it will pay to move your car to the nearest repair facility or another location of a similar distance. In some cases, labor for minor repairs, like replacing a battery, may be able to be completed on the spot. However, it’s important to remember that although the labor for these repairs are covered under roadside assistance, the cost of parts will be your responsibility. Emergency Road Service coverage through your HiRoad auto insurance may also cover:
Mobile battery service
Emergency gas delivery
Locksmith
Minor mechanical issues
Tire changing/inflating
