The HiRoader 2024 Year in Review

2024 has been absolutely packed with world-changing events. Years from now, when the history books are written, this year will certainly stand out. And the actions of HiRoad drivers like you are part of that history. Together, you’ve helped make our roads kinder, safer spaces to drive.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been hard at work enhancing the HiRoad app to make your experience even more rewarding. And we’re just getting started. Here’s a look at what we added this year and, more importantly, the good you did with it.

What’s driving the numbers in 2024?

As drivers, we all had one thing in common in 2024. We had places to go. Every mile you’ve logged wasn’t just a number on the odometer; it was a step toward something bigger. From daily commutes to road trips with family and friends, you drove to help make great things happen.

At HiRoad, we believe these miles add up to more than just distance—they’re a measure of the choices you make on the road. And together, they truly add up. So let’s explore the numbers from 2024.

Trips logged

One of the first things you learn to do with the HiRoad app is log your trips. As a HiRoader, when you log a trip and drive safely with the app, you can earn savings on your insurance bill. Which, in 2024, was a pretty big deal.

When you put all of those trips together, you’re talking about thousands taken collectively by HiRoaders. If you drove even a little less distracted this year (more on that in a moment), you were part of making the roads safer, one trip at a time.

Annual mileage

Ever watch those shows where collectors uncover old cars hidden away in barns and garages? One of the first things they’ll always check is the odometer. It tells a big part of the story of where that car has been.

In the same way, the HiRoad app tells you about your time on the road. From commutes and errands to road trips with the best playlists, each mile driven became a part of your story. Here’s a look at the distance HiRoad drivers traveled in 2024:

The total mileage is about the same distance as two road trips across the United States—which makes the great driving we’ve seen this year all the more remarkable. It’s proof that safe habits can go the distance.

HiRoad driving scores

Distraction-Free, Driving Patterns, Safe Speeds, and Smooth Driving—if you’re a HiRoader, you probably know these driving scores well. For those new to them, these four scores are key to maximizing the potential monthly discounts on your insurance bill.

With the power of telematics and the tech in your phone, we use data to highlight key areas of driving behaviors that ultimately result in potential savings and safer roads. This year, HiRoaders really brought their A-game. Check out the scores:

The higher the score (think safe, smooth, and distraction-free), the bigger the savings. These averages show HiRoaders that mindful driving can pay off in safety and savings.

What else were HiRoaders doing in 2024?

Trips, mileage and driving scores are the foundation of the HiRoad experience. But we are always adding more challenges and features to the app to help you drive better and save more. Here are some of our favorite ways to level up their driving this year.

The Challenges tab

The new Challenges tab in the HiRoad app gathers all your challenges, badges, streaks, and rewards in one convenient place, designed to help keep you motivated as you build safe driving habits and earn monthly discounts. 

If you loved getting gold stars in school or thrive on tracking your daily steps, this feature is made for you. Easily accessible from the home screen, it lets you stay on top of your challenges and provides a clear stats overview of your achievements.

Hands-Off Phone challenge

We created the Hands-Off Phone challenge to encourage safer, distraction-free driving. By simply keeping your hands off your phone during trips, you’ve built streaks of focused driving that can lead to more safety behind the wheel.

This challenge works remarkably well because streaks tap into the power of habit building, turning small actions into long-term change. By keeping up streaks, HiRoad drivers make good choices that add up, trip by trip.

This challenge can have a huge effect on your focus. Phones are one of the biggest distractions on the road—

more dangerous even than drunk driving. By putting your phone aside, you’re making a simple step that can save lives. 

We popped some quizzes!

We’re excited to launch fun quizzes like the Chill Driver Quiz and the Myth Busting Quiz. Each is designed to test your knowledge and help you strengthen safe driving habits. If you’re a HiRoader who hasn’t tried them yet, you’ll find both in the Challenges tab.

The Chill Driver Quiz offers a quick refresher on distraction-free driving, while the Myth Busting Quiz tackles common misconceptions, like whether multitasking and driving can really work together (hint: they don’t). 

These quizzes go beyond just testing what you know. They’re here to reinforce safe driving skills, and you’ll earn badges to celebrate your commitment to staying focused on the road.

Defeat Distraction challenge

HiRoad introduced the month-long Defeat Distraction Challenge for Distracted Driving Awareness Month (April). Each week, HiRoaders tackled a new mini challenge that encouraged focused driving through quick activities, like busting myths and practicing hands-free habits.

Drivers earned a badge for each challenge, and those who completed all four received a Limited Edition badge for their commitment. Through these challenges, HiRoaders strengthened their focus, helping make the roads safer for everyone.

Your trophy case

The Trophy Case gives HiRoaders a fun space to view and celebrate achievements. You can now see how far you’ve come across challenges and milestones, from daily streaks to Limited Edition badges. This central location lets you track your progress, view collected badges, and revisit accomplishments anytime.
