Shining a bright light on 2022: the HiRoad year in review
December 8, 2022
We believe good choices can drive change. Looking back on 2022, we are inspired by good things that HiRoad drivers did to contribute to that change. Plus, we’ll share some positive moments we’ve had as an insurance company that have helped create ripples of good in our communities and what we have planned for 2023.
The impact HiRoad drivers made in 2022
From earning their way to big savings to perfecting their driving scores in the HiRoad app, our customers showed up in a big way this year. With a little help from our data team, we’ve compiled our version of a highlights reel, HiRoader style.
Trips taken
Calculating trips in the HiRoad app is a key component to earn savings. A trip can be anything that gets you from Point A to Point B. And in 2022, each HiRoad customer mastered the art of the HiRoad app—look how far they’ve gone:
Put that all together and you get nearly five and a half million trips taken amongst all HiRoad customers in 2022. That sounds like quite the adventure, doesn’t it?
Annual mileage
It’s not the miles, it’s the moments. Some of our best moments can happen on the road, on a solo drive with your favorite playlist or podcast, or sharing memories with loved ones. Here’s a snapshot of the miles HiRoad customers put on road in 2022:
All in all, HiRoaders drove just over 39 million miles. To put that into perspective, HiRoaders drove enough miles to go around the world nearly 1,580 times.
HiRoad driving score averages
As a refresher (most HiRoad customers know this), we use telematics—aka the smart technology found within your phone—to pay attention to things like your driving speed, smooth braking and acceleration, the time of day you’re commuting and if you’re driving without distractions.
All of this data is collected and built into the four HiRoad driving scores: Smooth Driving, Safe Speeds, Driving Patterns and Distraction Free. These driving scores are the compass that can lead customers toward big savings on their insurance bill every month.
The higher the driving scores (driving safe and smooth), the bigger the savings. Here’s the 2022 average HiRoad app scores of all drivers—take a look:
We don’t know about you, but that’s a solid set of scores. HiRoad drivers pay attention to the things that matter on the road, and these scores are all the proof we need.
What HiRoad was up to in ‘22
In 2022 as a HiRoad team, we wanted to improve the experience our customers have within the app, which is why we made some impactful updates.
The HiRoad app now has an improved user experience that helps customers feel more recognized and rewarded for their good driving. Our HiRoad communities
At HiRoad we have a strong commitment to the community and 2022 was no different. In big and small ways, we found moments to share with, and support, our Arizona and Rhode Island communities.
In Rhode Island, we connected with our friends at Providence Streets Coalition to support their mission to create safe streets for residents in Providence—no matter how they commute—with additional funding to continue their work in 2022. To wrap up the year, we joined the Elves for Elders program in Rhode Island. This program strives to provide holiday gifts for senior citizens who live in local nursing homes and assisted living facilities and don’t have any gifts during the holiday season.
The team at HiRoad was proud to sponsor 200 elders in 2022, donating gifts for each during the holiday season.
Throughout 2022 the HiRoad team also found and created opportunities to connect with the Arizona community. Here were three notable standouts:
Billboards to Bags
In early 2022, HiRoad took the vinyl from our billboards across the state of Arizona and upcycled the material to create handcrafted “Bags of Good,” ensuring no waste ended up in a landfill.
The Bags of Good program was created to fill the upcycled bags with $10K worth of goods for those in need at Homeward Bound Arizona, which provides housing, rent and utility assistance to thousands of local families facing homelessness and financial hardship.
Green Team + Earth Day
You may have heard about or even seen our HiRoad Green Team in Arizona. As an insurance company in Arizona, we are driven to create positive change in the AZ community and help create good in meaningful ways. The Green Team, a group of Arizonans who have been sharing the message of HiRoad and doing some good for the environment along the way, helps drive that change.
The Green Team has been active around Phoenix, Tucson and TempeTempe participating in a few events this year like the Low Salt River Cleanup with Natural Restorations of Arizona on Earth Day.
Road Trip for Good
Our efforts in Arizona to involve the community in our mission to create ripples of good this year ended in a big way—with the Road Trip for Good.
We hit the road and stopped by Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Phoenix Pride Festival, Fountain Festival in Fountain Hills, Spooktacular in Scottsdale and the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix.
Folks who visited with our HiRoad team got to try out a mindful memory game where for every match an individual made, a donation from HiRoad would be sent to the Arizona Food Bank Network.
We’re happy to say that the Road Trip for Good paid off in a big way—not only did we connect with the Arizona community to share our HiRoad message, but we also were able to make a donation to the Arizona Food Bank Network to help local families.
Things coming in 2023 for HiRoad
To wrap up our 2022 HiRoad review, we wouldn’t want to forget about what we have coming in the new year. Our HiRoad customers can expect big things to come in the app with in-app experiences and challenges that help users stay more focused and calm while driving.
We’ll continue to be connected to our Rhode Island and Arizona communities in 2023. Early in the year, keep an eye out for our collaboration with local Arizona artists to find new and inspiring ways of visualizing our unique point of view on insurance.
We can’t wait to see where the new year takes us and to share it with you all.
Stay on the path
