How a billboard became a ripple of good
July 6, 2022
Last year, we brought HiRoad insurance to Arizona. We entered with a big “Hi” to our new state, announcing our insurance for good experience in lots of digital and transport ads, plus colorful and bold billboards. But it takes time to make an impression and have a presence in a new community. So we decided to take a sustainable approach to our outdoor advertising and create a ripple effect in the community that highlighted how good things inspire more good things.
Make good connections
We chose to work with Clear Channel to prevent the billboard vinyl from going to waste once the ads came down. Then, we collaborated with Rareform to upcycle the billboard vinyl and craft one-of-a-kind duffle bags to share with our employees, plus a group of Arizona early adopters who use HiRoad for their care insurance. With the extra 50 bags, we wanted to make an impact. What could we do? We thought: turn them into “bags of good” for some families in
Phoenix. That’s how we learned about a unique nonprofit that takes a holistic approach to helping end homelessness.Make more ripples
Homeward Bound AZ felt like a natural place to make another ripple. Their mission is to provide housing, rent and utility assistance to families facing homelessness and financial hardship. We heard about their Phoenix campus and asked if we could do our part to create a ripple of good.
“We are all about serving families facing homelessness, but served up with a lot of positivity and fun. Teaming up with HiRoad to help our families receive some much-needed supplies and time to enjoy a celebratory moment was very gratifying,”
Chelsea Guffy, marketing & events manager, Homeward Bound AZ.
Next, we purchased $10,000 in basic and not-so-basic items to donate: diapers, toiletries, school and art supplies, toys, snacks and backpacks. Families filled their upcycled bag with the goods they most needed and wanted.
But we wanted to add some extra HiRoad fun to the shared moment. So a trio of Arizona pro football stars—Dennis Gardeck, Will Hernandez and Maxx Williams—to hang out, autograph balls and play some toss with the kids.
Smiles? Yes. Laughs. Plenty. Feel-good connections. For sure!
For us, these small actions really do lead to more and bigger actions. When we connect with folks in our communities, we’re reminded that one good turn really does inspire another.
That’s a big part of why we created HiRoad, to recognize and reward the positive actions we all can make on the road and in life.

Thanks for taking the high road with us and keep making those ripples. We will too!
