Get good going on Earth Day in Arizona
April 22, 2022
As fans of Mother Earth, we want to take Earth Day to recognize the importance of our environment. And share why HiRoad is making an effort to contribute to making the world a little brighter and greener.
Why is protecting our environment important?
Since 1970, Earth Day has been recognized globally as a day to take action and fight for a clean environment for our generation and generations to come. So why is protecting our planet important?
Because a healthy environment is considered a human right. The
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) shares six reasons why protecting the earth is important.Destruction of wildlife spaces can cause disease to spillover from wild animals to people.
Air pollution can reduce the quality of health and can lower life expectancy.
Biodiversity loss may compromise the nutritional value of food.
Biodiversity loss may also reduce the score and efficacy of medicines.
Pollution may be threatening billions worldwide.
Climate change poses further risks to health and safety.
In order to preserve and advocate for the world around us, we have international days like Earth Day to inspire people to take action. So what can you do to take action? Here are a few different things you can do on the road that can help contribute to protecting our environment.
The impact on our environment starts with you
We like to think that one person really can make a difference, especially when it comes to the future of our environment. Your decisions on and off the road can have an impact in small but big ways.
One action can inspire others to take action themselves, creating a ripple effect of good in your community.
On the road
Believe it or not, you can drive more eco-friendly on the road—and start today. In a blog post, we wrote on eco-friendly driving, we listed some ways to reduce pollution while driving. When you drive less often, choose fuel-efficient vehicles and drive more mindfully, you’re taking steps to help protect our environment.
Off the road
Protecting the environment and our surroundings can happen beyond the road. The National Ocean Service (NOAA) shares some tips for how to help make our planet a healthier place to be now and for future generations.
Bike more, drive less
Reduce, reuse, recycle
Plant a tree
Conserve water
And lastly, volunteer. Volunteering for cleanups in your community helps build relationships with those who live in your area and contribute to making the place you call home a cleaner place to live.
Why we’re participating in Earth Day events in Arizona
At HiRoad, we want to be more than just your average insurance company. Our purpose is to recognize and reward you for making positive and good choices on the road. Because ultimately, that leads to a more mindful world for all of us.
We value the vision of a better future where we create meaningful, positive change that uplifts the customers and communities we serve. As an insurance company in Arizona, we want to be a part of a positive change in the community and help create good in meaningful ways. Like our Green Team, a group of Arizonans who have been sharing the message of HiRoad and doing some good for the environment along the way.
As a key part of our mission to get good going, the Green Team has been active around Phoenix, Tucson and Tempe since last year, participating in a few events like DUSK Music Festival by picking up trash, recycling and sparking conversations with people.
For Earth Day, they’re back at it! This time our Green Team helped out with the Low Salt River Cleanup with Natural Restorations of Arizona. Be sure to check out our Instagram for behind the scenes of the cleanup and what our Green Team is doing to get good going.
